Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

This Privacy Policy explains how Justus Mwanthi, trading as Digital Elimu ("we", "us"), collects and uses personal data through the Digital Elimu software, the Digital Elimu Content app, the online lesson catalogue and this website (together, the "Service"). We handle personal data in line with Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019.

2. What we collect

  • Licence information. Your reference code and when it was activated. Activation sends only the reference code; it does not send your name, files or anything stored on your computer.
  • Licence purchase details. When you request or buy a licence, the name, email, phone number and school you give us, and payment confirmation details.
  • Publisher information. For approved publishers: name, a device identifier of the registered publishing computer, its public signing key, and a record of what the publisher published, changed or removed.
  • Contact form and email. The details you send us: name, email, phone, school or organisation, and your message.
  • Technical information. Our servers and hosting provider process basic request information, such as IP address and time of request, to deliver the Service and keep it secure.

We do not collect information about learners. Digital Elimu does not ask for learners' names or personal details.

3. How we use it

  • to issue, activate and verify licences;
  • to let approved publishers publish lessons, and to keep a record of publishing activity;
  • to reply to your messages and support you;
  • to protect the Service against misuse, such as shared codes or tampering;
  • to meet our legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.

4. Who we share it with

We use trusted service providers to run the Service, including cloud hosting (Cloudflare) and email. They process data only on our instructions. We may also disclose data where the law requires it.

5. Where it is stored

Our servers are provided by Cloudflare, which may store and process data outside Kenya. Where this happens, we rely on providers that apply appropriate safeguards, as the Data Protection Act, 2019 requires.

6. How long we keep it

  • Licence and activation records: for as long as the licence exists, and for a reasonable period after it ends.
  • Publisher records and activity: while the publisher is registered, and afterwards as long as needed to resolve disputes.
  • Messages: as long as needed to deal with your enquiry.

7. Your rights

Under the Data Protection Act, 2019 you have the right to be informed about how your data is used, to access it, to ask us to correct or delete it, and to object to its use. To use any of these rights, email info@digitalelimu.app. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC).

8. Security

We protect data with measures such as signed and encrypted connections, restricted administrator access, and records of administrative actions. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your data safe.
